We are proud to introduce the first recipient of the Class of 1980 E. King Gill Selfless Service Award, Lauren Breazeale ’20. Lauren graduated with a B.S. in biomedical sciences and is attending medical school at Texas Tech.

Lauren wanted to address the entire Class of ’80. To the Class of ’80,
I first wanted to express my gratitude to you for your generosity and the thoughtfulness behind this award. At the LAUNCH award ceremony, I was able to hear the accomplishments of my peers and was truly honored to have been amongst such incredible company, making the fact I was selected as the award recipient even more impactful. I appreciate all the effort each of you put into making this award a reality and I know you have inspired others to create awards related to the other core values.
I am a third-generation Aggie so I don’t think I’d be exaggerating (by much any way) when I say I knew the Aggie War Hymn before I knew the alphabet. I grew up attending football and baseball games, learning about all the traditions, being told I wasn’t allowed to “whoop” until I was an upperclassman, and of course, learning what it means to be an Aggie. I have strived to embody the Aggie Spirit every day since I first set foot on A&M’s campus and I plan on showing everyone in Lubbock that same spirit as I attend Texas Tech’s School of Medicine in August.
I learned a lot at Texas A&M and I will forever be grateful for my experiences. Every moment I spent studying, stressing over exams, attending meetings, researching service events, organizing volunteer opportunities was all done in an effort to leave a positive impact on the world around me. This award means so much to me because it encourages me to continue reaching out to others and strive to leave the world a better place than the day before. Growing up hearing the story of E. King Gill, I am honored to receive this award and to be associated with the person he was and the legacy he created. I also wanted to personally thank Jeff Mason for generously donating his replica of the E. King Gill statue.
I know the past year has been less than ideal and the announcement of the award recipient kept being pushed back, but please know how thankful I am that you all made this happen. This award and statue replica are something I will cherish forever.

Thanks again to each of you in the Class of ’80 that helped establish the first core value award at Texas A&M University. The Class of ’80 can truly be proud of giving back to Texas A&M to memorialize the core value of selfless service for generations of future students!
